Tafalgan-MD 10 Tablets
Tafalgan™-MD contains Celecoxib 200 mg in a mouth dissolving tablet (MDT) formulation, designed for rapid disintegration in the oral cavity without the need for water. It is a COX-2 selective nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) indicated for relief of pain and inflammation associated with various musculoskeletal and inflammatory conditions. The MDT form offers convenience for patients with swallowing difficulties and ensures quicker onset of action.




Composition
Each mouth dissolving tablet contains:
Celecoxib … 200 mg
Pharmacological Class
Therapeutic Class: NSAID – COX-2 selective inhibitor
Mechanism of Action
Celecoxib selectively inhibits cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzyme, reducing the synthesis of prostaglandins responsible for pain, inflammation, and fever, while sparing COX-1 to minimize gastrointestinal side effects compared to traditional NSAIDs.
Indications
Tafalgan™-MD is indicated for:
Osteoarthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis
Ankylosing spondylitis
Acute pain management (musculoskeletal pain, sprains, post-operative pain)
Primary dysmenorrhea
Chemo Metronomic therapy
Dosage & Administration
Adults:
Usual dose: 200 mg once or twice daily, depending on the indication and severity of symptoms.
Place the tablet on the tongue, allow it to dissolve, and swallow. No water is required.
Children:
Not recommended below 18 years unless prescribed by a physician.
Elderly or Hepatic/Renal Impairment:
Dose adjustment may be required.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to celecoxib, sulfonamides, or any excipient in the formulation
History of asthma, urticaria, or allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin/NSAIDs
Pregnancy (especially third trimester) and lactation unless prescribed
Severe hepatic or renal impairment
Established cardiovascular disease (contraindicated in CABG surgery pain management)
Warnings & Precautions
Risk of cardiovascular thrombotic events (MI, stroke)
Gastrointestinal bleeding, ulceration, and perforation risk
Caution in patients with hypertension, fluid retention, or edema
Use lowest effective dose for shortest duration
Not a substitute for corticosteroids in inflammatory conditions
Adverse Effects
Common: Dyspepsia, diarrhea, abdominal pain, edema, headache, dizziness
Rare: GI bleeding, severe allergic reactions, hepatotoxicity, renal impairment, cardiovascular events
Drug Interactions
Anticoagulants (warfarin, DOACs) – ↑ bleeding risk
ACE inhibitors, diuretics – may reduce antihypertensive effect
Lithium – ↑ serum lithium levels
Other NSAIDs – additive side effects
